In November 2008 I was diagnosed with an insulinoma at my local hospital in Denmark. After a long and hard struggle the tumour was eventually located in March 2010 and it turned out to be in a very challenging position from a surgical point of view.

I was given the prospect of a very large operation (Whipple’s procedure) to remove the tumour and therefore decided to seek treatment abroad, so that I could benefit from the most advanced surgical techniques. I spoke to a number of different hospitals in both Europe and the US, among them Hammersmith Hospital in London because of its well-known expertise with pancreatic diseases. From the beginning the doctors at Hammersmith were extremely helpful with my case and I quickly decided that it was the right place for me to have my treatment.
In April 2011 I underwent my long-awaited operation and ended up with the best possible outcome, where the surgeon was able to remove the tumour laparoscopically (keyhole surgery) without causing any damage to my organs. I was back at work after just 3 weeks and felt fantastic. Throughout my entire stay at Hammersmith I felt very well taken care of and the expertise and attention from the responsible surgeon was simply amazing. Having experienced the highly competent and caring staff at Hammersmith Hospital I can warmly recommended it to anyone in need of similar treatment.
